Yonkers Insider: City of Yonkers: DOMINICAN REPUBLIC FLAG RAISING.

 

On Friday, February 25, 2022, the Dominican Flag was raised celebrating their 178th Anniversary of Independence.  Dominican Independence Day is a day to reflect, thank and honor the sacrifice, which a group of patriots made with the purpose to make the Dominican Republic an independent and free state. The first Dominican Republic Flag: Was made in 1838 and at this time it didn't have a shield. The flag has 3 colors: Red representing the blood shed by the fighters who fought against the Haitians for the Independence of the Republic. Blue representing the beautiful blue sky.  The white cross represents the purity and union of the country.   The shield that was added is the only one in the world with the Holy Bible in it.  It is the only one that includes God it its motto "Dios Patria Libertad." ~ God, Homeland, Liberty The flag was first flown on February 27, 1844, the day they were freed from slavery and became independent.  It is also the day the country was named "Republica Dominican". HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

Yonkers Insider: Election Desk 2022: Designating Petitioning for all Political Parties begins Today March 1st and Concludes on April 7th: Elections 2022.

 

Today is the 1st Day of Collecting Signatures to get on the Ballot, Commonly Known as Designating Petition Period, this Period starts Today, March 1st and Concludes on April 7th. 

Races for this Year are the Following: NYS Governor, NYS Attorney General, NYS Comptroller, All State Assembly Members, All State Senators, US Senate, All US Congress people, Yonkers City Court Judge, Westchester County Court Judge, Yonkers Democratic Party District Leaders for Yonkers Democrat Reorganization and also Delegates for the NYS Supreme Court 9th Judicial Convention as well.

Statewide Candidates who don't get 25 Percent of the Vote at their Party Conventions, have to Collect a Minimum of 15,000 Signatures Statewide. The Other Races are Less in amount of Signatures that needed to make the Ballot: 5 Percent of the Active Enrolled in the Political Party in the Political Unit being run in: US Congress: Minimum of 1,250 Signatures. State Assembly:  Minimum of 500 Signatures. State Senate: Minimum of 1,000 Signatures. City of Yonkers - City Wide: Minimum of 500 Signatures.

We are praying for you and we will continue to pray for peace in Eastern Europe and all across the world.

In Celebration of Women’s History Month, Annual Awards Ceremony Celebrates the Yonkers Women Who Positively Impact the Community.

 

YONKERS, NY – March 1, 2022 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced that the City of Yonkers is accepting nominations for the city’s annual “Women of Distinction” Award, presented each year during March to celebrate Women’s History Month. The annual “Women of Distinction” Award recognizes Yonkers women who have served their local community and positively impacted the lives of Yonkers residents.  Nominations for Women of Distinction are to be submitted at www.YonkersNY.gov.

 

“Many of our women in Yonkers give so much of themselves to ensure our city becomes a better place to live, work and play. They are our community leaders, educators and agents of social change,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “I encourage our Yonkers residents to nominate the heroes in their lives for our Women of Distinction Award.”

 

The deadline to submit a nomination is Wednesday, March 16; the award ceremony will be held on Friday, March 25 at 6:00 pm at Yonkers City Hall (Ceremonial Courtroom, 4^th Floor).
