This morning, I was in Albany with faith and civic leaders as the Assembly prepared to pass my legislative resolution memorializing Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim June 21st as Yoga Day in the State of New York, alongside World Yoga Month which is in June. This holistic health and art form has been in existence since 500 B.C.E. and continues to be practiced by millions around the world, including many here in New York State
This Session has been historic for appreciating the rich diversity in our State. I'm pleased to have taken the lead alongside my legislative colleagues in sponsoring legislation which would recognize Diwali and Lunar New Year as official public holidays in New York State, both which will be passed by the Assembly this week. I thank H.H. Guruji Rev. Dr. Dileepkumar Thankappan from the United Nations for his tireless advocacy on this matter
