As part of the state’s proposed $4.2 billion Environmental Bond Act (officially known as the Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Bond Act), voters can approve on an allocation of $1.5 billion for climate change mitigation projects.
New York State Laborers, League of Women Voters, and other civic and advocacy groups joined NYLCV, WE ACT for Environmental Justice, Trust for Public Land, and other environmental groups to urge New York voters to vote ‘yes’ on Proposition 1 on November 8.
Dozens of all-electric school buses are about to hit city streets–out of 184 statewide–thanks to funding from President Biden’s infrastructure package. A measure passed as part of the state budget this year requires that all school buses in New York be electric by 2035.
The New York Times unpacks the Bond Act. "It would let the state invest in modernizing our infrastructure, not just surviving in a changing climate, but for thriving—for cleaning up our water, floor-proofing our neighborhoods and improving public health," said environmental reporter Anne Barnard.
