FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: YONKERS MAYOR MIKE SPANO ENCOURAGES RESIDENTS TO STAY SAFE IN CYBERSPACE.
City Marks First Cyber Security Day on Saturday, November 19 with Open Hard Drive Destruction at the Yonkers Recycling Center.
Yonkers, NY – November 7, 2022 -- Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano is giving residents and local businesses the opportunity to discard old hard drives at the Yonkers Recycling Center on Saturday, November 19 from 7:30 am to 4:15 pm.
Department of Public Works (DPW) employees and members of the City’s IT Department will be on-site to remove, dispose and demolish the hard drives properly. DPW employees will wear the appropriate safety equipment and use tools to destroy the hard drive.
“This is a way for our residents and local business owners to ensure personal and private data stored on the computer is completely inaccessible,” said Mayor Spano. “In today’s tech-dominated world, it’s important for each of us to be proactive to protect our security.”
Department of Public Works Commissioner Thomas Meier said, “This first Cyber-Security Day is part of Mayor Spano’s green initiative. Recycling unwanted hard drives while removing potentially critical information, helps safeguard the peace of mind of each and every one of our residents.”
The Yonkers Recycling Center is located at 735 Saw Mill River Road.
