The New York State Senate’s 2021 session was a purposeful and productive success.
Our first priority was to protect residents from the pandemic and rebuild our economy while offering help to those who needed it most—which we did.
We also passed the 2021-2022 State Budget, with record investments meant to benefit middle-class taxpayers, small businesses, workers and local municipalities, including a $1.4 billion increase Foundation Aid to school districts.
Our legislative accomplishments were many: Increased oversight and staff levels at nursing homes. Improved utility services across the state. More tools for communities to prevent gun violence. Voting rights. Renewable energy initiatives. Check, check and check.
All told, I had 48 bills passed in the Senate during its 2021 session. And as chair of the Senate Committee on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, I was at the forefront of the state’s fight against the opioid epidemic.
There is more work ahead—and I plan on being ready for 2022 and keep doing my best to serve the residents of New York and the 40th Senate District.
That’s why we need to show the naysayers and opponents that we will continue our fight.
Let us build on our accomplishments: keeping property taxes low, safeguarding our communities and ensuring proper funding for schools.
Thank you.
Pete Harckham, New York State Senator 40th District
