FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  CITY OF YONKERS LAUNCHES WATERSMART ONLINE PORTAL TO HELP PROPERTY OWNERS TRACK WATER USAGE AND PAY WATER BILLS.

YONKERS, NY – June 25, 2020 – As part of the City of Yonkers’ upgrade to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Mayor Mike Spano today launched its WaterSmart program which aims at helping Yonkers residents, commercial customers and property owners track their water usage, receive notifications for possible leaks, view and pay their bill through an easy-to-use online and mobile customer portal at https://yonkersny.watersmart.com. WaterSmart will provide the Yonkers Water Department with daily automated data analysis and targeted digital outreach to help increase customer support.
“We’re excited to work with WaterSmart to help property owners track their water usage, develop a personalized water budget and possibly lower their annual water bill,” said Mayor Spano. “With over 28,000 water customers in Yonkers, our city staff will now be able to benefit from the detailed customer information and consumption analytics to help them operate more efficiently. More importantly, this water infrastructure program will improve the reliability, clarity and timeliness of water bills and communication between the City and its customers.”

Through WaterSmart, each residential, commercial and property owner will receive a detailed welcome letter with the ability to access the WaterSmart Portal (containing their account number and ZIP code) so they can receive the following benefits:
·         Receive online notifications and payment reminders  ̶  Never miss a water bill again and save on postage
·         Ability to track water use in real time  ̶  Aids in conservation and keeps bills down
·         Receive email or text notification of leaks  ̶  Saves money and good for the environment

Mayor Spano added, “Yonkers prides itself on finding innovative ways to better serve our customers and we are excited to make this service available so our residents can better manage their water use and utility bills.”

By utilizing this advanced technology, the Yonkers Water Department will be able to better educate Yonkers residents  on their water usage and send automated alerts to customers to help them save water and money.
