Hello everyone,
On Tuesday, June 23rd, we held the last City Council meeting of this legislative session. We will resume in the Fall for the 2020/2021 legislation session, which will start on September 8, 2020. At Tuesday's meeting, the resolution I introduced last week asking Mayor Mike Spano to require YPD patrol members to use body cameras, was approved by 7-0. I want to thank all my Council colleagues who voted in support of this resolution. I also want to thank Mayor Mike Spano for realizing how important body cameras are to increasing accountability. He recently announced that Yonkers will indeed be moving forward with body cameras for the Yonkers Police Department.
The Council also voted, among other items, to urge the City of Yonkers to officially observe Juneteeth and called on our Congress and Senate to proclaim Juneteenth as a legal holiday in the State of New York. Needless to say, we had a very productive meeting. While we are on recess for the summer months, the City Council and my office will remain open and at your service. Please feel to continue to reach out for any questions or concerns you may have or any assistance you may need.
In other news, Westchester County and the Mid-Hudson Region has entered Phase 3 of reopening as of Tuesday, June 23rd. This includes Yonkers.
