Going Out? Cover Up! Wear face masks or face coverings when you can't social distance! The Yonkers Police Department would like to remind members of the public that as per Governor Cuomo's Executive Order 202.17 https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/no-20217-continuing-temporary-suspension-and-modification-laws-relating-disaster-emergency: "...any individual who is over age two and able to medically tolerate a face-covering shall be required to cover their nose and mouth with a mask or cloth face-covering when in a public place and unable to maintain, or when not maintaining, social distance." As such, businesses including grocery stores and supermarkets may institute their own policies and requirements mandating the use of  face masks or face coverings. Any member of the public who refuses to wear a face mask or face covering in such business, and subsequently challenges a request to vacate the premises, may be subject to arrest under the provisions of the New York State Penal Law charges for trespassing. This would be considered a last-resort; social distancing enforcement will continue to primarily be an outreach and education campaign. The Yonkers Police Department would also like to thank everyone for their overwhelming voluntary cooperation with these new norms and dealing with this crisis with steadfast resolve.
