Yonkers Insider: County Police Conduct Increased Traffic Enforcement.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY POLICE CONDUCT INCREASED TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT.

Dozens of summonses issued along the Saw Mill River Parkway.

(Hawthorne, NY) – In a continuing crackdown on aggressive driving, Westchester County Police this weekend issued dozens of summonses along the Saw Mill River Parkway in Yonkers, Hastings-on-Hudson and Dobbs Ferry.

In addition, the County Police teamed up with the Yonkers Police Department and the New York State Police to conduct other specialized enforcement over the holiday weekend. The ongoing, stepped-up enforcement is a response to an increase in aggressive driving that has been seen since warmer weather arrived in April.

“Traffic has been lighter than usual and this seems to have emboldened some motorists to drive more aggressively,” Public Safety Commissioner Thomas A. Gleason said. “Our officers have observed this and we also have received complaints from our residents about loud mufflers, possible drag-racing and other quality-of-life concerns. Our increased enforcement is addressing these issues.”

During special enforcement on Sunday on the Saw Mill, County Police officers issued 38 summonses for a variety of violations, including speeding, having a loud muffler, driving an unregistered or uninsured vehicle, driving with a suspended registration, and failure to yield. Two persons were arrested: one for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle and the other for Obstructing Governmental Administration.

On Friday, during a joint enforcement detail with the Yonkers Police Department and New York State Police, County officers issued 25 summonses, arrested one person on an NYPD warrant, and detained three persons wanted in connection with a shooting investigation and turned them over to another agency. The summonses issued were for a variety of violations including speeding, having a loud muffler, passing through a red light, following too closely and driving without a license.

“Our officers are regularly enforcing Vehicle & Traffic laws on all our parkways as well as participating in joint enforcement efforts with other agencies such as the Yonkers PD, Greenburgh PD and New York State Police,” Gleason said. “The Covid-19 pandemic is not deterring us from our commitment to keep our roadways safe.”
