News from U.S. Congressman Eliot Engel, 16th District.

U.S. Representative Eliot L.
Engel, Proudly Serving the Bronx and Westchester in the 16th District of
New York
Dear Friend:

Sixty-five years ago today, in the landmark Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka decision, the Supreme Court struck down the doctrine of "separate but equal" calling it inherently unequal and unconstitutional. This ruling was instrumental in launching the civil rights movement that led to desegregation and the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

But sixty-five years later, we still have a long way to go in the fight for equality. I believe the work of the civil rights movement, and much of the progress made in the education field, is in jeopardy today due to the current Administration.

As Americans, it is our duty to ensure all children attend schools that are free from discrimination, and that students, regardless of race, gender, faith, or sexual orientation, have equal access to a quality education.

On this anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education, we must rededicate ourselves to the fight against discrimination and the promotion of educational equality.
Sincerely,

Eliot L. Engel
MEMBER OF CONGRESS
