Dear Friends and Neighbors, 

Westchester County’s Annual Holiday Gift Drive runs through Monday, December 16, collecting gifts and monetary donations to provide a brighter holiday for more than 1,000 children in Westchester who are in foster care, the homeless system, and receiving other protective and preventive social services. 

There are six drop box locations throughout Westchester, accessible during business hours, where new, unwrapped toys, appropriate for newborns through 21-year-olds can be donated. The Office of Assemblyman Sayegh volunteered at The Matthew Wallace Foundation's Thanksgiving Grab-n-Go. Thanksgiving turkeys, a bag of groceries and a $50 ACME gift card were given away to the first 100 families in our community. Special thank you to Jeni Wallace.

The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony featured a lively afternoon with guests enjoying live music and ice sculpting demonstrations. Local officials and community leaders gathered on stage as City Council members and Ridge Hill ownership officially cut the ribbon, marking the grand opening of Town Square.

This week began with a meaningful discussion with the administrator of Holy Spirit Parish in the Bronx, Fr. Eric Cruz of Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New York University of Notre Dame, focusing on outreach initiatives and programs that serve the needs of our District. Additionally, I met with Carole Conklin, the Chairwoman of Mayor Mike Spano's Disability Advisory Board, to discuss significant advancements in disability legislation and initiatives aimed at fostering inclusivity and accessibility for all. This week also features a momentous ribbon-cutting ceremony as Ridge Hill's ownership gathered to celebrate the official opening of Town Square. This new addition is set to become a dynamic space for community events and activities. Moreover, my team attended the YMCA Community Thanksgiving Dinner, where we joined nearly 300 local residents in celebrating gratitude and community spirit. This special event provided a festive meal for those in need, exemplifying the power of community connection. Finally, my office was proud to volunteer at The Matthew Wallace Foundation’s Thanksgiving Grab-n-Go event, where we helped distribute turkeys, bags of groceries, and $50 ACME gift cards to the first 100 families in our community. It was a heartwarming experience to support those in need this holiday season. I again call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon! I urge all involved parties to engage in negotiations for a lasting peace agreement, which includes the release of all hostages and prisoners. Additionally, it is imperative that the international community promptly addresses the hunger, starvation, and displacement affecting the entire population of Gaza, and now Northern Israel, Lebanon, and the West Bank. From the start of this conflict, nearly 50,000 have died, over 150,000 are injured, and over 2 million displaced from their homes. This must stop immediately!

Thanks to the generous donations made by FuelCo and Yonkers Fire Local 628, my office will be able to offer a Turkey Giveaway this Monday, November 25th at 5:30pm, at Yonkers Hub (470 South Broadway). On Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at 12:00pm, we'll have our monthly mobile food pantry with Feeding Westcehster in front of the Nodine Hill Community Center (140 Fillmore Street). YONKERS, NY – November 22, 2024 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced today the City of Yonkers received a perfect score of 100 for the tenth consecutive year on the Municipal Equality Index (MEI) report, joining 130 cities across the nation out of the 506 cities surveyed. The MEI examines how inclusive municipal laws, policies and services are for LGBTQ+ people.

"The City of Yonkers has always been dedicated to promoting equality and inclusion for everyone, regardless of who they love," said Mayor Mike Spano. "We are a city that celebrates and values each and every one of us, and this commitment remains our greatest strength. Our employees, residents, and businesses deserve a safe space where they can work, play, and live their truth. Our score reflects that progress is not only possible but also highly valued and essential for building a stronger community."
