YONKERS, NY – November 22, 2024 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced today the City of Yonkers received a perfect score of 100 for the tenth consecutive year on the Municipal Equality Index (MEI) report, joining 130 cities across the nation out of the 506 cities surveyed. The MEI examines how inclusive municipal laws, policies and services are for LGBTQ+ people.
"The City of Yonkers has always been dedicated to promoting equality and inclusion for everyone, regardless of who they love," said Mayor Mike Spano. "We are a city that celebrates and values each and every one of us, and this commitment remains our greatest strength. Our employees, residents, and businesses deserve a safe space where they can work, play, and live their truth. Our score reflects that progress is not only possible but also highly valued and essential for building a stronger community."

Anthony Nicodemo, Chair of Mayor Spano’s LGBTQ Advisory Board said, “I am so proud to live in a city that fosters an inclusive environment. Earning a perfect score ten years in a row exemplifies the efforts of many that want to see Yonkers prosper for all people.”
Michael Sabatino, Yonkers Director of Constituent Services and Mayor’s Liaison to the LGBTQ Advisory Board said, “This is a great accomplishment for Yonkers, as this is the tenth year in a row obtaining 100% for equality. Thanks to Mayor Spano and the administration for making sure that our LGBTQ residents get the respect and rights that we all deserve as citizens of Yonkers. Our diversity in Yonkers is our strength.”
