Sports: Lansdowne RFC host successful Invitational, back on the road vs. Brooklyn on 4/27.

 

A very entertaining tournament personlified by committed open play by all sides saw the hosts sweep the NYPD and Morris Rugby at Tibbets Brook Park on April 13.  The games were played in 20 minute halves as to guarantee all Men's teams get 80 minutes of match time.  And in another superb encounter, the Lansdowne Old Boys edged the Morris Old Boys by 36-10. New coach and Lansdowne Legend Sean McCarthy maintains his perfect record with a 3-0 start.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Lansdowne 38 NYPD 0

  Known for their massive bravery and commitment, New York's Finest were typically resolute in defence.  However, Lansdowne had just a wee bit too much firepower on the day, and came out on top.  Try scorers were Owen Murphy, Nick Yuan, Eoin Foynes, Dillon Casey and George Reis. Man of the Match Sean Stones converted 5 tries.

  The 2nd match had a scintillating offensive display by the New Jerseymen, as they typically demonstrated champagne rugby throughout.  Try scorers were their outstanding outhalf, and 3 each by the winger and Man of the Match outside center. The swirling wind wreaked havoc with the kicking game all match long.

  Both of these "Old Boys" teams demonstrated esthetic rugby In a match that was a joy to watch.  Morris's 9 John Sutherland linked up beautifully with his back line thereby tormenting the hosts all day.  Lansdowne try scorers were Pat Daly, Jarret Murphy, Omehito Jones, Ian O'Connor, Mark Giordano, who converted 3 tries, and Man of the Match Dillon Casey.

  The hosts won the tournament as Sean Stones was on fire from the tee. He converted 1 try and kicked 4 penalties.  Try scorers were Eamon McCaffrey and Man of the Match Kevin McKenna.

Lansdowne are back on the road this weekend, traveling to Coney Island to take on Brooklyn RFC. McCarthy's men are looking to keep winning after a successful Irish Invitational and a road win in NJ the week prior. I have zero tolerance for drunk or impaired driving on Local Area roads. A new law I helped pass ensures surcharges collected from alcohol and drug-impaired drivers are used to fund education, prevention and enforcement programs.

Our office continues to partner with the Office of Congressman Jamal Bowman to host Mobile Constituent Services here at the Office of Assemblyman Nader Sayegh located at 35 E Grassy Sprain Rd Yonkers, NY 10710. Individuals with federal immigration matters can seek assistance. The mobile services would take place on April 10th & April 24th, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Our staff would be available to assist residents with contacting any federal agency and answer questions about available federal resources.

I am proud to have led the charge in crafting and passing the 2024-2025 state budget, totaling nearly 235 billion dollars. This past week was filled with intense negotiations, but I remained steadfast in my commitment to securing the funding needs of eight municipalities in the Yonkers area and advocating for equitable distribution of resources across our region. Finally, on Saturday, after extensive negotiations, we successfully approved the state budget. This budget represents a significant investment in the future of New York, with key provisions that will positively impact education, infrastructure, healthcare, and more. Education remains a top priority, and I'm proud to have fought alongside dedicated individuals and organizations to advocate for increased funding for our schools. Our children deserve the best possible education, and I will continue championing initiatives supporting their academic growth and success. Additionally, this week we had the privilege of commemorating two important days: Honor Flight Day and Donate Life Day. These occasions serve as reminders of the sacrifices made by our veterans and the life-saving impact of organ donation. It was truly humbling to participate in events honoring our veterans and raising awareness about the importance of organ donation in saving lives. I also had the opportunity to enjoy some precious moments with my family celebrating my granddaughter Juliette's 4th Birthday as well as celebrating my daughter, Hana Sayegh, the bride-to-be, and her fiancé, Dr. Issa Khoury. Spending quality time at home reminds me of the importance of balance and connection. I again call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza! I urge all involved parties to engage in negotiations for a lasting peace agreement, which includes the release of all hostages and prisoners. Additionally, it is imperative that the international community promptly addresses the hunger and starvation affecting the population in Gaza. From the start of this conflict, over 35,000 have died.
