Yonkers Insider: Democratic Candidate for District Attorney Susan Cacace Pledges Environmental Protection as Top Priority on Earth Day.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

April 22, 2024

***PRESS RELEASE***

Democratic Candidate for District Attorney Susan Cacace Pledges Environmental Protection as Top Priority on Earth Day.

On this Earth Day, Susan Cacace, the endorsed Democratic candidate for Westchester County District Attorney, stands committed to prioritizing environmental law enforcement. Recognizing Westchester’s natural beauty and open spaces - and the fundamental right of its residents to clean air and water - Cacace vowed to take decisive action to safeguard the environment.

"Westchester is a beautiful place to call home. We all have the right to clean air and water, and that means doing all that we can to protect the environment. As DA, I will make sure that those who break our environmental laws are held accountable for their actions," declared Cacace.

Cacace noted that communities of color and underserved communities often face the disproportionate burden of environmental injustices. With Westchester County receiving a D rating from the American Lung Association in a report released last year, coupled with environmental threats such as illegal dumping, vanishing wetlands, and child lead exposure, it’s clear that immediate attention is needed, she said.

"The climate crisis is real. Upholding environmental laws and prosecuting those individuals and corporate entities that defy them is absolutely critical to preserving the health and welfare of our residents," emphasized Cacace.

Collaboration with government and community partners to enhance education on identifying and reporting environmental crimes will be central to Cacace’s approach. Establishing robust partnerships with entities like the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the New York State Attorney General's Office can help bolster accountability and strengthen enforcement efforts.

By prioritizing these efforts, Susan Cacace stands strong in her pledge to be a champion for environmental protection in Westchester.
