Tune in Wednesday, March 30th at 7PM to watch Mayor Mike Spano's 2022 State of the City Address!

Yonkers Insider: Statement from Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano.

Dear Friend,

Today we officially broke ground on Yonkers' newest school, Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community School.

The Justice School is the first of its kind in our District and will be a model moving forward as we continue to rebuild our schools. Our local schools are the heart of our neighborhoods and should be made accessible not only for educational enrichment, but also for the benefit of the families who live in the area. We are fortunate for the opportunity to dedicate a new school in recognition of the positive change Justice Sotomayor represents to our students and District.

This endeavor would not be possible without the commitment of the Yonkers State Delegation, our State leaders and school stakeholders in supporting our efforts to improve the environments in which our children learn. Mobilizing as a united front to rebuild Yonkers Schools exemplifies the necessity of this campaign. Let’s keep up the momentum in fighting for the needs our students deserve.

I cannot wait for the official opening during the 2023-2024 school year.

Best wishes,

MIKE SPANO
Mayor

Assemblyman Nader Sayegh Kicks Off

Re-election Campaign.

Nader Sayegh Seeks Re-Election to the New York State Assembly.

Assemblyman Nader Sayegh will ask Yonkers voters to support his re-election to the New York State  Assembly. Sayegh is serving his second 2 two year term representing Yonkers in the “People’s House.”

“I have delivered millions of additional dollars for Yonkers Public Schools which are receiving record amounts of State School Aid. I worked with Governor Kathy Hochul to increase state funding to combat crime and gun violence. I support major environmental legislation, including the “Restore Mother Nature”  Environmental Bond Act of 2022,” said Assemblyman Sayegh. “Additionally, I am a fierce advocate for the equitable treatment of all New Yorkers, no matter where they or their ancestors were born.”

Assemblyman Sayegh's District Office has helped thousands of constituents with problems navigating State Services, and has expanded the scope of Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) offered by partnering with the staff of Congressman Jamaal Bowman.

With one-third of its residents born outside the United States, Yonkers is one of the most diverse cities in America. Sayegh and his Assembly staff maintain close contact with Yonker’s  African-American, Arab-American, Hispanic-American, Ukrainian American and Asian American communities, and he celebrates the contributions to our great country from all who call Yonkers home.

Sayegh served Yonkers Public Schools as a teacher, Principal and President of the Board of Education prior to his election to the Assembly in 2018.

Arriving with his family from Jordan at age 4, Sayegh credits his family, faith and the State’s Public Education System with his success and pledges to continue putting Yonkers First.

As a SUNY WCC Alumni I am pleased the proposed New York State Budget includes additional funds to enable our great public university system to employ more full-time faculty members, and enhance specialty programs such as Culinary Arts. At a SUNY Reception for State Legislators this week, Culinary students handled the entire affair preparing and serving delicious food. The quality of education provided at the SUNY and CUNY campuses across New York is vital to the future strength of our economy and success.
