Yonkers Mayor Spano, Superintendent of Schools Aníbal Soler, Jr. and Yonkers Board of Education will join film producer Robert Halmi and local officials for a ribbon cutting and opening ceremony at The Robert Halmi Sr. Academy of Film and Television, Wednesday, September 25, at 11AM at 463 Hawthorne Avenue (entrance on Valentine Lane.).
The new high school level trade school is part of the Yonkers Public Schools District and will focus on educational instruction in the film and television industry, allowing students to engage in hands-on, project-based learning to prepare for various career paths within the field. The school was established by Emmy and Golden Globe winner Robert Halmi, a producer of more than 400 film and television projects, the founder of the Hallmark Channel, and the visionary behind Great Point Studios. With the support of Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and the Yonkers Board of Education, Robert Halmi named the school after his father, Hollywood’s legendary Robert Halmi Sr.
Through a curriculum developed in partnership with Great Point Studios, IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employee), and CAA, the Robert Halmi Sr. Academy of Film and Television (RHA) offers educational instruction in film and television, fabrication and design, social media marketing, project management, event planning, sound design, audio technology, and musical and theatrical performance. The students will gain proficiency in production technologies used in film, television, and theater, while learning the business aspects of the arts.
