Dear Friends,
It has been extremely busy in Albany as we prepare for the 2024 legislative session to conclude this week. I look forward to updating you with the bills that pass both the Senate and Assembly this year and wait to be signed by Governor Hochul. I will hold two post-session town halls to update you on the legislative session and to answer any questions. Please stay tuned for more information on the locations, dates, and times.
Consumer News: I also wanted to ensure you all were alerted to a law that went into effect in February of this year to limit credit card surcharges and to require the surcharge to be included in the total price at the time of purchase, rather than a hidden fee. Now, restaurants are required to set prices with the credit card processing fee already included, or else they must show two prices: one for cash and one for credit payment.
If you find a business adds a fee for credit card use, which was not disclosed on the total price before payment or before ordering, I urge you to file a complaint with the AG's office and/or with the Westchester County Department of Consumer Protection. I thank our neighbor, Skip Green of Larchmont, for bringing this matter to my attention. With the legislative session coming to an end, I look forward to being in Westchester full-time for the next six months. We are blessed to live in a community so lively and vibrant as Westchester. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve every one of you. |
