May 17 is the 20-year anniversary of the first same-sex marriage in the United States. I am proud to be part of the Legislature that passed the Equal Rights Amendment, and am hopeful that appellate process currently underway will lead to its restoration to the November ballot for public approval. This critical amendment to the State Constitution will prohibit discrimination based on sex — including sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression — as well as ethnicity, national origin, age, and disability.
