(YONKERS, NY) Lansdowne Yonkers FC, the first and only semi-professional sports team in Yonkers since the baseball team Yonkers Hoot Owls folded 1995, sit in 1st place in the Metropolitan Conference of the Eastern Premier Soccer League. The “Bhoys,” as they have been known as for 26 years, are on a 5 game league winning streak under the helm of Coach Matt Kane. While some of the current player roster consists of the squad that won the league and National Amateur Cup in 2021, Kane brought in a lot of new faces that helped bolster the roster, and add younger legs.
“The run is great but it’s simply a product of the work that’s being done. We aren’t taking it for granted. We’ve seen what applying ourselves appropriately has given us, but it means nothing if we don’t improve on it and make it count,” said head coach Matt Kane, a Belfast, Ireland native who moved to New York in the 2000’s to coach for the New York Red Bulls Academy, Soccer Stars USA, and Manhattan Celtic, before making the blockbuster move to Lansdowne in June of 2023. Kane was tasked with rebuilding the club’s culture, encouraging players to connect more with the fans and the growing youth system, and build a new playing style that is more focused on possession, drawing space, and creating as many attacking opportunities as possible. Since December, Lansdowne Yonkers have outscored their opponents by 19 goals to 3, and currently sit 4 and 10 points over their biggest title rivals NY Pancyprian Freedoms and NY Greek Americans respectively.
“The new signings are relentless. (Liam) Salmon and (Jamie) Cotter are two players that are excellent and never stop. They don’t allow the opponent an opportunity to breathe. Puchi (Luis Puchol Del Pozo) and (Daniel) Di Marco have brought stability with talent. (Seamas) Keogh and (Michael) Gallagher bring talent that will make everyone in the squad raise their game. However, the main purpose was to bring out the level of the players already here and I believe we are seeing that. Alex (Cox-Ashwood) is one of those that complement the new arrivals and has scored 5 goals in his last 2 appearances.”
Three of Lansdowne Yonkers’ latest signings boast a resume of very recently playing in the professional leagues domestically and overseas. Alexandre Cox-Ashwood, signed in November, was signed from Greenville Triumph of USL League One, the 3rd division of professional soccer in America. Seamas Keogh, a former U-19 Ireland National team captain, signed for Lansdowne Yonkers during the winter break after playing at Finn Harps in the League of Ireland First Division, and Sligo Rovers in the Premier Division a season prior. His departure from Donegal led to much press and affectionate well wishing in the local media over there, and an announcement video on Yonkers social media that immediately received over 8,000 views. Michael Gallagher arrived a week into the start of the Spring leg of the season, flying in from Dublin after playing for UCD in the LOI Premier Division. In fact, you can still pick up a copy of the video game EA Sports FC 24 and play as Gallagher. In fact, other existing players on the Lansdowne squad are available to play in prior versions of the FIFA video game - Shamir Mullings (FIFA 18 – Forest Green Rovers), Daryl Kavanagh (FIFA 14 – St. Patrick’s Athletic), and Andrew Sousa (FIFA 12 – New England Revolution).
Lansdowne are determined to win back the Metropolitan Conference, and EPSL League title for the first time in 3 years. They are also actively defending their Werner Fricker Cup title and will have to win all their key matches in the upcoming months to achieve this feat. Overcoming the Bhoys’ rivals are the biggest hurdle, as both the Greek Americans and Pancyprian Freedoms are big clubs with rich histories of national cup success, and some of the most talented players in the post/pre professional soccer scene in America. The Eastern Premier Soccer League is regarded as one of the strongest pre-professional soccer leagues in the country, and a favorite among die-hard American soccer fans. For decades, Yonkers’ officials always touted the possibility of a professional sports team in Yonkers. Lansdowne has been the closest and most successful to fulfilling that reality, with partnerships and sponsorships that bring high quality soccer into the backyard of Yonkers residents. All matches are free to attend, and you can watch the livestream for all Lansdowne Yonkers matches for free on YouTube, Facebook, X (Formerly known as Twitter), and Twitch on New Logical Sports and Lansdowne Yonkers social media.

Lansdowne Rugby, based in Yonkers, NY, was founded in 1993 in The Bronx. The O’Brien brothers, who founded the club, named both the organization, and their new bar “The Lansdowne” after their favorite rugby club in the All-Ireland League (AIL), Lansdowne FC, who are based on Lansdowne Road in Dublin. Since then, Lansdowne has become the home of immigrants (both Irish, but also many other countries with a rugby culture) who moved to NY and wanted a rugby club to play with. Over time, the club moved their operations to Yonkers, NY, a suburb of NYC, but keeps their footprint in NYC, with training at Randall’s Island to accommodate the population of Irish and non-Irish players living in Queens and Brooklyn but playing their home games at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers. In recent years, Lansdowne won the 2019 Empire GU Division III championship, won the 2021 Big Apple Spring Tournament, and had 2 consecutive runners up campaigns in the Empire GU Premier Division, before falling near bottom of the table in 2023.
When Lansdowne Rugby celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2023, McCarthy was honored as one of the “Lansdowne Legends,” the club’s hall of fame back in November. In his acceptance speech, he emphasized the need for spreading the word on recruitment and promoting the camaraderie and friendship the club is most famous for. This immediately resonated with players and the board of directors who saw McCarthy’s potential as a future coach.
When outgoing coach Dillon Casey (of Dublin, Ireland) announced his plans to move out of NYC for work, the hunt for a new coach began again, and McCarthy was immediately touted as the 1st choice. “We feel his experience and history with the club will help bring us back to greatness,” said Mark Giordano, the club’s chairman since 2021.
“I’m one of the founding members of Lansdowne (back in 1993), and I’m glad the spirit is still about keeping the good times rolling. Now my 2 sons play here. I had to ask them if it was okay to coach them because I can be a little tough. I’ve had the great privilege of coaching at Fordham University for many years. It’s a real honor to coach The Lansdowne. I think we’re going to have a lot of fun recruiting and bringing Lansdowne back to Rugby prominence in the New York Rugby Scene,” said Sean McCarthy. “The long term goal, and the short term goal are the same: We’re gonna win the next game.”
Lansdowne has a Spring season full of friendlies, but return to the regular season in the Fall, most likely competing in the 3rd division again to rebuild. The most notable match coming up is the New York Irish Rugby Invitational, featuring NYPD Rugby and Morris Rugby (of Morris County, NJ). In select years, sides from Ireland and other countries come to compete in this cup, but this year it’s all regional Irish American rugby sides. It’ll take place on April 13th at Tibbetts Brook Park Grass Field 2, kicking off at 11 AM, with pipe bands, a national anthem singer, a DJ, and plenty of fun, as all 3 clubs are raising money for the widows’ and children of fallen NYPD officers and FDNY firefighters, a charity known as “Answer the Call.” All attendees are encouraged to donate to Answer the Call, and the matches will be livestreamed on New Logical Sports on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch.
Lansdowne Rugby is always recruiting new players. All levels of experience are welcome. Training sessions take place at Randall’s Island Park Fields 74 & 75 on Tuesdays and Thursday at 7 PM.
Since launching my campaign to defeat AOC earlier this month, the support I’ve received has been incredible. Whether out speaking with voters in the district, at campaign events, or on social media, the message has been clear — Americans are done with AOC and the far-left's extremism and divisiveness.
This election is our chance to send a message to AOC and the far-left and reverse all of their failed radical policies. Together, we can reinvest in our law enforcement, remove criminals from our streets, regain control over immigration, and curb rising inflation.
I know that together we can turn the tide against extremism and usher in a new era of responsible governance.

Yonkers Police Department Makes Arrest in Fatal Van Cortlandt Park Avenue Motor Vehicle Accident.
Yonkers, NY- The Yonkers Police Department has arrested the suspect responsible for a motor vehicle collision that resulted in the death of a Yonkers man that occurred earlier this week.
At just after 4:00 pm on Monday, March 25, 2024, the Yonkers Police Department received a report of a motor vehicle accident in which a pedestrian had been struck in the area of 632 Van Cortlandt Park Avenue. After arriving on the scene, first responders found a 21-year-old male who had been severely injured in the incident, and medical attention was quickly provided to him. This male was transported to an area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. He has been identified as Jadon Bennett of Yonkers, NY.
Detectives from our Major Case Squad, Crime Scene Unit, and Digital Forensics Unit responded to the scene to investigate. This investigation yielded that Bennett was involved in a verbal altercation with a male sitting in a white Mercedes-Benz sedan in the area of 632 Van Cortlandt Park Avenue. Investigators believe this dispute stemmed from a previous interaction between the two males over an online marketplace transaction. The investigation yielded that as the altercation escalated, the male driver accelerated his vehicle at Bennett, subsequently causing his death, before fleeing the scene. It has also been determined that Bennett was in possession of a firearm during this altercation. Evidence revealed that no gunshots were fired at any time during this incident; however, the firearm fell to the ground after Bennett was struck, which also caused live ammunition to fall to the ground with it. All evidence was collected by investigators at the scene.
With the assistance of Officers and Crime Analysts in the Yonkers Police AWARE Crime Control Center, the vehicle and driver were located at an East Meadow, New York, residence on March 26, 2024. This 17-year-old suspect was taken into custody without incident. Due to laws restricting the identification of this suspect as a minor, no further information will be released regarding this suspect. He was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death, a Felony in the State of New York.
Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza said, “Once again, Yonkers Police Detectives, in conjunction with our AWARE Crime Control Center staff, were able to locate and apprehend a suspect who is responsible for a deadly incident in our city. Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased. I urge our youth to find positive ways to handle their disputes so that we, as a community, do not suffer a loss of life.”
The case is being prosecuted by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, and additional information may be released as it becomes available.
NOTE: Booking charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
Our nation is in dire need of a change from AOC and the far-left's divisive and extremist politics.
AOC and her allies put their radical ideology over the well-being of everyday Americans. Their extremist policies have led to skyrocketing crime, a migrant crisis, and out of control inflation, leaving hardworking families struggling to make ends meet.
While millions of Americans struggle to put food on the table or pay their bills, AOC and the far-left are more concerned with policing language and identity politics.
It's time for a change. It's time to replace AOC with a leader who work to solve our problems, not create more. That's why I'm running for Congress – to bring common-sense back to government and stand up for the hardworking individuals and families.
Together, we can turn the tide against extremism and usher in a new era of responsible governance. Join me, and let's make a difference for our community,

Statement by State Senate Candidate Gina Arena on Murder of New York City Police Officer Jonathan Diller.
March 27, 2024
“Police Officer Jonathon Diller was callously murdered by a recidivist criminal who should have been taken off the streets years ago. So when career politicians like Senator Pete Harkham (SD-40), who led the effort to eliminate cash bail, offers his ‘deepest condolences’ over the killing, I, and others are understandably infuriated.
“Pete Harkham and his woke colleagues in Albany are directly responsible for the plague of violence that cost Officer Diller his life on Monday. They eliminated highly effective ‘broken-windows’ policing — an incredibly effective tool for taking handguns off the street — banned undercover policing, and undermined police officers in the eyes of the public at every turn.
“At the same time, Mr. Harkham remained mute as 37 cop killers were released from New York State prisons over the past six years. One wonders how much time Officer Diller’s killer will serve under one-party Democrat rule.
“If we want to honor Police Officer Dillon’s life — if we truly want to remember his sacrifice — we’ll repeal Mr. Harkham’s dangerous, pro-criminal policies, and put proven crime-fighting tools back in the hands of law enforcement. Mr. Harkham’s so-called ‘reforms’ are getting New Yorkers killed.”
YONKERS, NY – March 25, 2024 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced the return of Yonkers Arts Weekend (YAW) with an expansion of a two-day art festival to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
“Yonkers arts are more vibrant than ever,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “This year, we have new public art around the City, thanks to our collaboration with Yonkers Arts. We are also working with our talented young people who continue to inspire us and add to the tapestry of our community.”
A collaboration with Yonkers Arts, this year’s festival will feature a range of pop-up exhibitions, free art workshops, and musical performances across nearly one dozen venues including the downtown area and Carpet Mills Arts District.
“Yonkers Arts is extremely thrilled to partner once again with the City of Yonkers to present Yonkers Arts Weekend," said Ray Wilcox, Executive Director at Yonkers Arts. "This collaborative effort allows us to celebrate the arts and diverse culture of our City and showcase the incredible talent we have right here in Yonkers. The City's ongoing support of the arts is essential to making this event a success, and we look forward to another year of inspiring artistic experiences for our community."
Since 2014, YAW has raised the bar making the City of Yonkers a prominent arts district in the lower Hudson Valley. Yonkers Arts Weekend attracts more than 10,000 visitors a year to City galleries.
Community partners for YAW include: Blue Door Art Center, Carpet Mills Arts District (CMAD), Hudson River Museum, MorDance, Philipse Manor Hall, S.I.C. Film School, Untermyer Gardens Conservatory, US+U/Warburton Galerie, WEARTONE, YOFI DMAC, YOHO artists, Yonkers Downtown/Waterfront Business Improvement District, City of Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation, and Conservation, Yonkers Partners in Education (YPIE), Yonkers Public Library’s Riverfront Art Gallery and Yonkers Public Schools.

YONKERS MAYOR SPANO TO PRESENT CITY’S 2024 WOMEN OF DISTINCTION AWARDS.
Mayor Mike Spano will present Yonkers’ 2024 Women of Distinction Awards, Wednesday, March 27 at 5:30 PM in Yonkers City Hall (Ceremonial Courtroom, 4th Fl.).
In honor of Women’s History Month, the City of Yonkers will recognize Detective Vionett Martinez, Sister Mary Alice Reamer, Yolanda “Loni” Shinault, Meiling Macias-Toro, and Phylisha Villanueva whose distinct achievements have improved the lives of others in the community and whose impact has changed Yonkers for the better.
Brooklyn-NY…“The American Conservative Union just released its latest ratings of U.S. legislators, and it’s no surprise to see that Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer have about the worst conservative voting records in America. Ms. Gillibrand, who claimed to be a gun-toting moderate when she first ran for Congress, had a 3% conservative rating for 2023, while liberal Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer managed to slightly outdo Gillibrand with a 2% conservative rating.
“Scores that low aren’t easy to come by. You’ve got to be a real left-wing ideologue to rank that poorly. But what these ratings make absolutely clear is just how out of touch the Empire State’s U.S. Senate representatives are with the average New Yorker. That’s what happens when you live and breathe each day in elite, progressive ivory towers.
“Fortunately, Ms. Gillibrand is up for reelection this year, and we’re confident that Republican-Conservative Senate challenger Michael Sapraicone will thoroughly educate everyday New Yorkers about Ms. Gillibrand’s strident left-wing voting record. New York is facing so many problems under one-party Democrat rule, and Ms. Gillibrand’s and Mr. Schumer’s voting records are a major contributor. If we want to save New York, they both need to go, one after the other.”
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
YONKERS MAYOR SPANO ADVOCATES STATE OFFICIALS TO AMEND REGIONAL COST INDEX.
Grouping Yonkers with Downstate Region Would Provide Approximately $24 Million to Yonkers Public Schools District Annually.
YONKERS, NY – March 25, 2024 – Continuing his push for additional State funding, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano calls on New York State representatives to change Yonkers’ Regional Cost Index (RCI). The Regional Cost Index is a key component of Foundation Aid meant to adjust for geographic variations in the cost of education resources. For nearly 20 years, Yonkers has been grouped with smaller local economies in Upstate and Western New York, such as Sullivan and Ulster Counties, putting the Yonkers School District at a disadvantage for Foundation Aid.
“Located in Westchester County, which has the highest median house prices of any county in the state and nearby wealthy school districts, such as Bronxville and Scarsdale, competing for, and retaining professional talent, can be financially challenging for us here,” said Mayor Spano. “Yonkers, which is a downstate district, should be compared to other downstate districts, along with Long Island and New York City.”
Over 70% of experienced teacher hires made by Yonkers regularly come from the New York City district, indicating a common labor force region, which was the original reason for lumping New York City and Long Island together. New York State’s Regional Cost Index has not changed since 2006. Grouping Yonkers, where 74% of the students live in poverty, with the New York City and Long Island RCI region, would bring approximately $24 million more to the Yonkers School District annually.
Mayor Spano argues regional cost factors used in building aid are updated annually and classified by county, which provides a much more accurate assessment of cost for each district rather than the current Foundation Aid. Westchester County’s building aid regional cost factor is currently the second highest in the state and higher than both the Long Island counties, which receive a higher Foundation Aid RCI. This is a giant misalignment in the formulas and is why Yonkers is ranked only 232nd in the state in Foundation Aid per Pupil, based on the Fiscal Year 2024-25 Executive School Runs. Even if the RCI Index was adjusted to equal that of New York City and Long Island, Yonkers would still only be ranked 195th.
Mayor Spano added, “We don’t need to reinvent the wheel to find a better model. Our Regional Cost Index should have a carve-out, similar to what the State did for minimum wage in Long Island, New York City, and Westchester. At the very least, we need the recognition that the towns or cities that border New York City to the north compete for professional talent at similar costs.”
Mayor Spano continued, “While the Yonkers School District is a model urban district, achieving the highest graduation rate of the Big 5 for the last eight years, it has done so with non-recurrent revenue. We are edging towards severe cuts without guaranteed funding. We’ve come to the limit of what the City and our residents can afford. I ask New York State to reassess the formula that can guarantee reoccurring aid to our students.”
***SSTATEMENT***
Statement from Assemblymember MaryJane Shimsky on Edgemont Incorporation.
I oppose the incorporation of Edgemont as a new village. I have spoken with many in the 92nd Assembly District about the issue and have found overwhelming consensus from them that this is a bad idea for our community. While I look forward to seeing CGR’s complete assessment, the study itself was done on a very compressed time frame and with a number of costly items left unexplored. Even so, none of the data they provided has changed my underlying concerns about what this would mean for Greenburgh overall.
The issue of Edgemont incorporation has been discussed for many years and predates my time in Albany. When I arrived in the Assembly, I co-sponsored two pieces of legislation to modernize and strengthen New York’s village incorporation laws — legislation which passed during my first year in office. But, unfortunately, I had also inherited a situation where Edgemont was now cut off from Greenburgh and the rest of the district, through a redistricting process approved by my predecessor. This has set up a situation in which Edgemont is no longer represented in balance with the interests of the Town as a whole.
Former Assemblyman Abinanti failed to pass any legislation on village incorporation during his 12 years in office, and yet has chosen to misrepresent my record for his own political gain. But, the fact remains that I never supported an exemption for Edgemont from the new laws, and I never sponsored legislation to that effect. Rather, I have spoken out and voted against a carve-out for Edgemont, and I have worked to make Greenburgh’s voice heard in Albany.
Moving forward, I will continue to listen to the people of District 92 and provide my support for keeping unincorporated Greenburgh whole.

Spring brings new beginnings...
...and we couldn't be more excited about the road ahead! Each week our campaign gains momentum as we further connect with the community – hearing from folks all around the County about what they hope to find in our next District Attorney.
Resoundingly, what we are hearing, is that all people want to feel safe. Storeowners want to be protected from retail theft, parents want fentanyl off our streets, families are desperate for guns and violent criminals to be locked up swiftly, women want access to abortions, and we all want to put an end to hate crimes.
But we can and we must go beyond prosecuting crimes. We can work to prevent crimes before they happen by implementing programs like youth counseling, and mental health support. We can protect victims by making sure their voices are heard.
I have immersed myself in the world of Criminal Justice in Westchester County as an Assistant DA, a defense attorney and as a Judge. I'm ready to build on the successes the DA's office has seen and take it to the next level.
The Democratic Primary is 3 months away. Let's start a new beginning together on June 25th!
WESTCHESTER COUNTY LAUNCHES MULTI-DISCIPLINARY THREAT ASSESSMENT CENTER.
Law Enforcement, mental health experts, educators and others to work collaboratively with the public to prevent targeted violence.
(White Plains, NY) -- Westchester County has launched a new threat assessment center to prevent targeted violence and provide the public with a direct way to report persons or groups they fear may be planning acts of mass violence or domestic terrorism.
The Westchester County Threat Assessment Center (WESTAC) utilizes multi-disciplinary teams consisting of law enforcement, mental health professionals, social workers, school officials and other community stakeholders. The center will receive, assess and manage threats or potential threats of targeted violence and attempt to prevent it from occurring.
County Executive George Latimer announced the initiative during his recent State of the County address.
Latimer said, “In many incidents involving mass shootings or other targeted violence, there were warning signs that went unreported. These include erratic behavior, threatening comments, alarming social media posts or growing hostility toward persons of a different racial or ethnic group. WESTAC’s mission is to identify or assess these potential threats and intervene before any violence occurs.”
Latimer said the public may share information with the Threat Assessment Center anonymously through an encrypted portal or confidentially by phone or email.
The online secure, encrypted portal can be accessed at: https://publicsafety.westchestergov.com/report-threat
By email: westac@westchestercountyny.gov

Recent interviews with Bronx and Queens residents reveal rapidly growing frustration with AOC and her radical far-left policies for allowing violent criminals to avoid prison, illegal migrants to take over entire blocks, and trash to pile up in the streets.
Yet AOC continues to deny there is even a problem, remaining steadfast in her view that NYC should house and support every single migrant.

He was arraigned in White Plains City Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of bail. The case is being prosecuted by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.

I’m Marty Dolan. I’m a father, grandfather, Harvard business graduate, son of Argentinian immigrants, former senior global financial analyst, advisor with 30 years of experience on Wall Street, and the candidate challenging AOC for Congress in the upcoming election.
I’m challenging AOC because now more than ever New York and our nation need experienced leaders who understand the complexities of the global economy.
In NYC, AOC's radical policies have been devastating. Crime is at a level not seen since the 90s as NYPD officers resign in record numbers, housing is unaffordable housing due to the far-left efforts to block real estate development, and the immigration crisis has pushed our city's budget and resources to a breaking point.
Unlike AOC and her radical supporters, I understand how our economy works and how to get it back on track. During my 30 years on Wall Street, I oversaw massive global risk insurance programs. That meant it was my job to help businesses, families, and even entire nations recover financially in the aftermath of disasters such as the 2008 global financial crisis, COVID-19, the WTC attack, and Hurricane Katrina.
Thank you for being a part of our fight,
Marty Dolan

Former assemblyman Thomas Abinanti is preparing to challenge incumbent MaryJane Shimsky (D-Dobbs Ferry) in hopes of recapturing his old 92nd Assembly District seat in a Democrat primary this June.
A grassroots effort in Greenburgh led by Town Supervisor Paul Feiner and several others to carry petitions for Abinanti was spurred by Shimsky’s support for state legislation that would make it easier for Edgemont to incorporate as a village. The move has been opposed by most town officials.
“Community leaders in Greenburgh are very angry that instead of continuing the efforts that I was making to protect Greenburgh from the disastrous impacts of Edgemont separating itself (from the town) and forming a village, Assemblywoman Shimsky sponsored legislation which makes it easier for Edgemont to leave,” Abinanti said.
Abinanti, who lost the Democratic primary to Shimsky by about 900 votes in 2022 after serving 12 years in the Assembly, said if those carrying his petitions secure the requisite number of signatures, he will officially announce his candidacy by the end of March. The 92nd Assembly District also includes the Town of Mount Pleasant and a small piece of northwest Yonkers.
Feiner said the stakes are high for Greenburgh in the fight to prevent Edgemont incorporating as a village because it would likely cause spiraling tax increases and loss of services. With the defection of one of the more affluent areas of town, Greenburgh would likely have trouble affording some of its services such as many of its recreational programs, he said.
There would be an estimated initial loss of about $8 million with budget deficits, reaching as much as $17 million to $18 million, resulting in dozens of municipal layoffs and the diminishment of services, Feiner said.
“So, for this Assembly race, this is really a one-issue campaign in my opinion,” Feiner said. “Do we have a representative in Albany that’s going to fight to keep the town whole or is somebody going to stab the town in the back? I’m very disappointed with the (state) legislation.”
The Town Board passed a resolution asking its state representatives to support a home-rule request that would repeal the new law, but that hasn’t been successful.
Feiner said he believes that some of the supporters behind incorporating Edgemont as a village don’t want to have to pay for services and project that benefit the lower income portions of Greenburgh.
Attempts to reach Shimsky late last week were unsuccessful. She had released a statement last week following the emergence of the news that Abinanti would likely oppose her in a primary.
“It’s been my honor and privilege to serve the people of the 92nd Assembly District. I look forward to continuing to work on their behalf with my colleagues in the New York State Assembly, and to providing the best possible services and quality of life,” the statement read.
Abininati said sections of the town, such as Hartsdale and Fairview, would be most hurt the most. If the town were to retain most of the programs, there could be as much as a 20 percent tax increase.
“The wealthier part is Edgemont,” he said. “That’s why this is such a big deal and why it would mean a very big problem for the Town of Greenburgh.”
Abinanti said he would also run because the state legislature provides inadequate funding for people with disabilities, who lack an advocate in Albany.
Before his 12 years in the Assembly, Abinanti served the same district as Shimsky on the Board of Legislators. Earlier in his career, he was a Greenburgh councilman. He currently lives in Pleasantville.
Shimsky was in her sixth two-year term on the Board of Legislators when she defeated Abinanti two years ago.

The talk has been that Westchester County Clerk Tim idoni will retire and not run for Westchester County Clerk in the 2025 Election.
The hot rumor has been City Clerk Spano running for Westchester County Clerk next year for the office that his father Leonard Spano was once in and that he was Westchester County Clerk.
Vincent Spano has been Yonkers City Clerk since 2013. Many talk about the work of the Yonkers City Clerk's Office and give the office high marks under the leadership of City Clerk Vincent Spano.
Another rumored candidate for Westchester County Clerk via sources of Yonkers Insider is Yonkers City Councilwoman Corazon Pineda Isaac of the 2nd District. Many see her interested in office of Westchester County Clerk.
We shall see what happens. Councilwoman Pineda Isaac is up for reelection in 2025 for her Yonkers City Council Seat in what could be a tough reelection race for her according to sources in Yonkers politics.

The June 25th, 2024, primary will be a referendum: are we better or worse off from following Radical policies?
We are all for the "progress" implied by the word Progressive. However, within the Progressive movement, there are Radicals whose influence on the Democratic Party is overweight.
The impact in NYC is obvious: bail reform a disaster, the National Guard in the subway, toothpaste locked up in drugstores but criminals running free, scarce resources directed to (non-sanctuary) immigrants coming from all over the world.
These difficulties must be addressed in the context of a runaway $34 trillion federal debt and NYC's 14% marginal tax rate. Regional tax inequality is far more exaggerated in the USA than in any other country. Losing 500,000 taxpayers is unsustainable: fixing this must be our overwhelming priority.
We also urgently need to "reset" our society's income inequality and harmonize regional differences in social policy. We call our approach the 'Hamilton Plan v. 2.0' in honor of one of our greatest New Yorkers, Alexander Hamilton, who forged the independent colonies into a great republic.
The Radicals can't deliver more than breadcrumbs when they ignore that the primary breadwinners are leaving and brush off taxpayer concerns in favor of abstract populist ideologies. Enough is enough.
New Yorkers have seen it all, including scams like the Radicals offer. But we know better that New Yorkers want NYC to be the best city in the best country in the world.
Our founders left us the blueprint. “E pluribus unum”: of many, one.
We have just drifted off course.
Let us move forward together as one people.
Let us not wait another two years for the same result.
Let us reset on June 25th.
It is the honor of a lifetime to ask to represent you in this mission.
ELMSFORD MAN INDICTED FOR ILLEGAL GUN POSSESSION.
In addition to the loaded semi-automatic weapon found in defendant’s car, red flag laws allowed police to seize additional firearms from defendant’s home.
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced today that an Elmsford man was indicted for the illegal possession of semi-automatic weapons, ammunition and gun paraphernalia, which were found in his car and seized from his home in accordance with an Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO).
DA Rocah said: “This is an example of how New York’s strong gun safety laws can keep our communities safe by permitting law enforcement and prosecutors to take action when weapons are in the hands of individuals who should not have them. I commend our federal and local law enforcement partners for working swiftly to apprehend this defendant.”
The defendant, Hani Saleh, 47, was arraigned on Mar. 8 before Judge Larry Schwartz in Westchester County Court on an indictment by a Westchester County Grand Jury for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, eight counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, five counts of Criminal Possession of a Firearm, and Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree, all felonies, and two vehicle and traffic violations.
The defendant's next court date is April 10.
It is alleged that at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 25, 2023, the defendant, who had no permit to legally purchase or possess firearms in New York, was in possession of a semi-automatic firearm and a large capacity ammunition feeding device, also known as an extended magazine, containing 10 .40 caliber rounds of ammunition, which were found under the driver’s seat of his vehicle.
White Plains police apprehended the defendant after he was observed around White Plains driving his car, which was covered in writing and images, including nearly a dozen swastikas, and allegedly had forged license plates.
Following the defendant’s arrest, law enforcement secured an ERPO--a court order that temporarily removes firearms from any individual who poses a risk of harming themselves or others--and seized from his residence in Elmsford an additional rifle, three semi-automatic pistols, six extended magazines (five of which were loaded), and a silencer.
After being remanded to the Westchester County jail upon his October arrest, the defendant made a bail application and posted $50,000 cash bail. Prosecutors today requested remand or increased bail at $150,000 cash. Citing the defendant’s willful and persistent failure to appear in court leading up to his arraignment and posing a significant flight risk, the Court set bail at $100,000 cash, $500,000 bond or $750,000 partially secured bond at 10%.
White Plains Public Safety, the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), the FBI’s Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office conducted the investigation.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Brianna Ciuffi of the Trials and Investigations Division.
The charges against the defendant are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
WESTCHESTER COUNTY BOARD OF LEGISLATORS RENEWS CITIZENS’ BUDGET ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR 2024-2025 LEGISLATIVE TERM.
White Plains, NY — At Monday’s Budget and Appropriations Committee meeting, eight members of the Citizen’s Budget Advisory Committee (CBAC) were re-appointed: John McGarr, L. William Kay III, Rodman Reef, Julie Stern, Judith Stern Rosen, Diana Quast, Beth Smayda and Jonathan Mark. E. Annette Nash Govan was the new appointment to the committee for the 2024-2025 term.
Legislator and Budget & Appropriations Chair Jewel Williams Johnson (D- Elmsford, Greenburgh, Tarrytown, White Plains) said, “All individuals are overly qualified and represent a range of financial and accounting backgrounds. It was happenstance that I learned of Ms. Nash Govan’s experience in multiple CFO positions. I was impressed by her recommendations for the Westchester Black Women’s Political Caucus, and I suggested we meet and that she consider the CBAC. To my delight, she did. We look forward to her contributions and those of all of our extremely capable members.”
The Citizens' Budget Advisory Committee was renewed at the March 4, 2024, regular meeting of the Board of Legislators. According to the 1998 Resolution, the committee's mission was to obtain input from individuals who are representative of the public and those who have a background in finance and/or budgeting to provide assistance to the Board’s Budget and Appropriations Committee.
The Committee is tasked with reviewing the proposed Capital and Operating Budgets by the County Executive and make written recommendations no later than five (5) days before the date specified for the deadline for additions to the Budget (the first Monday in December) to the Committee on Budget and Appropriations. These recommendations should include a review of the proposed tax rate and a recommendation as to the level of proposed expenditures necessary to provide for an appropriate level of County government and its programs and services.
The Committee can also include in its recommendations other matters of concern that the Committee deems warranted. The Committee shall review all items referred to the Citizens' Budget Advisory Committee by the Committee on Budget and Appropriations during their term of office. These items would include monthly cash projections, quarterly projections of the Budget Department, and A & C Agendas.

PLEASE SIGN SAFETY PETITION- ACCIDENT SERIOUSLY INJURED 16 YEAR OLD BOY CROSSING SAW MILL RIVER PARKWAY AT LAWRENCE TO GET TO SHOPPING CENTER AND MOVIE THEATER.
https://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/935/528/349/
Over the years, since ChaunceySquare first opened up, I have observed a number of near misses --pedestrians crossing the Saw Mill River Parkway to get to the shopping center and movie theater. Cars frequently speed on the parkway or try to go through red lights. There is no bus stop inside the shopping center. Employees without cars who work at the complex and students who don't have cars have to walk across the busy Saw Mill River Parkway to get to their destination. On March 4th a 16 year old was seriously injured. Some residents of the community asked me to help them lobby for crosswalk safety improvements. An online petition was started. It would be greatly appreciated if you would sign the petition below calling for crosswalk safety improvements and a thorough safety assessment of Exit 16. I have tried for years to get a bus stop inside the complex—have been advised that it can't be done.
If you would like to get involved in a lobbying campaign please e mail me your contact info. We need your involvement! My e mail is pfeiner@greenburghny.com

SIGN PETITION BELOW---YOUR INVOLVEMENT CAN HELP PREVENT ANOTHER SERIOUS ACCIDENT
A Tragedy Strikes Our Community:
At around 7:45 pm on Monday March 4, A 16-year-old boy was seriously injured when he was struck by a car while crossing the Saw Mill River Parkway at the Lawrence Street intersection in Dobbs Ferry (Exit 16). This heartbreaking incident highlights the urgent need for improved pedestrian safety at this location.
While it's heartening that the community has rallied around the young man and his family during this challenging period, to avert future tragedy, it's crucial that we take immediate steps to enhance pedestrian safety at this location and prevent future tragedies.
This unsafe crossing is frequently used by employees who work at the many services that Chauncey Square provides. They are just trying to get safely to their jobs, and we should provide them with a safe passage across the Parkway. In addition, local teens walk from Hastings on Hudson to Chauncey Square along the South County trailway, and hikers and bikers cross here to access Chauncey while using the trail. There is the perception or expectation - in particular among teens - that cars will observe the rules of the road and yield to pedestrians. For now, any step we can take to alert drivers to the pedestrian crossing could avoid another tragic accident and make the crossing safer.
We, the undersigned, a group of concerned residents and daily commuters using the SMRP, urge local authorities to prioritize pedestrian safety at Exit 16 by implementing the following solutions:
• Enhancing Pedestrian Crossing Signage: Install clear, bright yellow pedestrian crossing signs with activation lights directly at the crosswalk for better driver visibility.
• Adding Upstream Warning Signs: Place warning signs along both directions of the Parkway alerting drivers to a pedestrian crossing ahead, especially near the exit.
• Enforcing Traffic Laws: Increase police presence or utilize technological solutions like traffic cameras to deter speeding and ensure driver compliance with crosswalk laws.
• Constructing a pedestrian bridge: This long-term solution would provide a safe and convenient way for pedestrians to cross the parkway.
We urge Leadership from Town of Greenburgh and NYSDOT to conduct a thorough safety assessment of Exit 16 and implement the proposed solutions outlined in this petition.
