Today is the 79th Anniversary of D-Day. On this day in 1944, the largest seaborne invasion in history took place by Allied troops on the beaches of Normandy to fight Nazi Germany and liberate Europe. I'm proud to have supported a resolution memorializing this day in the Assembly.
Over 300,000 allied troops were involved in the operation, including five soldiers from the City of Yonkers. Lt. Richard E. Detwyler, Pvt. James A. Hayes, Jr., Sgt. John Henwood, 2nd Lt. John B. Clements, Jr. and Pvt. Robert Kendrick. Today and everyday, we honor these heroes and pause to celebrate their incredible bravery and sacrifice for a better world. Thank you veterans!
