Yonkers Insider: Assemblyman Sayegh Passes Legislation Combating Criminals Who Use Fake & Untraceable Phone Numbers to Force School Lockdowns & To Falsely & Intentionally Harass and Cause Harm.

 

Using fake and untraceable phone numbers, criminals can make false reports of mass casualty events, guns spotted near schools, and other false reports that trigger school lockdowns and shelter in place alerts. These calls have occurred statewide and right here in Yonkers.

Additionally, using fake phone numbers, criminals can harass public officials, or neighbors.

It is nearly impossible for police to catch these perpetrators, so this week I passed in the Assembly, Bill A0061 which requires the companies providing fake phone numbers, to keep records on who obtained them.

Assemblyman Sayegh explained the purpose of the legislation to his Assembly colleagues. The vote to approve the measure was unanimous.
