I voted in the Assembly to make significant changes in our State's Bail Laws to make sure our criminal court judges can set appropriate bail for serious crimes and for low level repeat offences such as shoplifting.
I am co sponsoring legislation to make assaulting a retail store owner or workers a serious offense and have provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in State Grants to the Yonkers Police Department while funding special anti-violence programs in our neighborhoods.
The recently passed State Budget also increases funding to help those suffering with mental illness.
Almost all New Yorkers – 92% – believe crime is “very serious” or “somewhat serious” of a problem statewide, while 65% say the same about their own community (The Siena Poll).
Crime was the number one question in my recent Constituent Survey.
Question 1 asked if residents felt safe walking around their Yonkers neighborhood?
60% said yes, 35% said not always and 5% said they do not. I thank everyone who took the time to respond to the survey.
I will continue to advocate for funding and programs to do what is needed to make our streets and communities safe. |
