During the past couple of weeks, the City Council held multiple Town Hall meetings and Public Hearings for public input on the proposed redistricting map for the City of Yonkers.Redistricting is required every ten years following the completion of the Census. This is done to ensure the council districts continue to reflect population and demographic changes. Again, some districts have gained and some have lost population. The goal is NOT to divide up racial groups or to reduce their collective voting power.
I am happy we were able to hear the feedback and incorporate some of the suggestions into the revised map.
The Yonkers City Council will be voting on a final redistricting map at a Special Council meeting scheduled for Friday, February 10, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
