Earlier this month, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie opened the current Legislative Session saying New York needs to “double down on efforts to address the global climate crisis” and “meet the goals of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act." The legislation was passed in 2019, requiring action to reduce emissions and wean New York off fossil fuels.
This week supporters held a Kick Fossil Fuels Rally at the Capitol and met with legislators.
Assemblyman Sayegh was a co-sponsor of last year's proposed All Electric Building Legislation that would ONLY APPLY TO NEW BUILDINGS. The All-Electric Building Act if passed this year will help New York move to a cleaner and healthier future. The Bill also provided necessary exemptions in new buildings for certain systems including emergency backup power and for buildings designated as commercial food establishments, laboratories, laundromats, hospitals, and crematoriums.
The Assembly will be reviewing Governor Kathy Hochul's budget proposals on climate change, her budget proposal is expected February 1.
