Department of Parks, Recreation & Conservation Commences First of Three Phases of Park Improvements.
Groundbreaking for Trevor Park Improvements.
YONKERS, NY – January 3, 2023 -- Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano along with the Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation & Conservation today broke ground on the first of three phases of renovations planned for Trevor Park, located on Ravine Avenue.
Renovations for the 25-acre park include the installation of new basketball courts, new tennis courts, new benches and walkways and the replacement of the playground surfacing. The first phase, estimated at $1.1 million, is scheduled to be complete in early summer.
“Trevor Park is a staple of this neighborhood and our waterfront,” said Mayor Spano. “When we invest in local parks like Trevor, we are investing in the quality of life of our residents. Thank you to our City Council, especially Councilmember Shanae Williams and our Parks Department for prioritizing these improvements for the betterment of our City.”
Shanae Williams, Yonkers City Council, 1st District, said, “Trevor Park is a significant community space here in west Yonkers, yet for years it has been overlooked and in dire need of an upgrade. I’m proud that together with the Mayor, Parks Commissioner and the Trevor Park Committee members, we are at the stage of renovating this magnificent park for the community.”
Steve Sansone, Commissioner, Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation & Conservation said, “This is a first in a series of exciting parks renovations to be done this year. We are excited to reimagine and reinvent Trevor Park while respecting its history and unique splendor and views.”
Trevor Park is slated to undergo additional improvements in the next three years that will include the rehabilitation of the restrooms and the ballfields, the dog area and the installation of fitness equipment and new bleachers.
Trevor Park is one of 78 neighborhood parks located throughout the city.
