STATEMENT: From #Yonkers City Councilman John Rubbo
"Every ten years following the completion of the Census, the Yonkers City Council reviews the existing council district lines to ensure the council districts continue to reflect population and demographic changes.
Some districts have gained and some have lost population roughly equal between different districts. Additionally, the goal is not to divide up racial groups to reduce their collective voting power.
Drafting these lines can be challenging, but we put our best foot forward to update to lines in a fair manner.
Dr. Andrew Beveridge, a Yonkers resident, assisted in the drafting of these lines.
Dr. Beveridge spent many hours updating the lines and offering guidance through the process.
It was a pleasure working with him.
The Yonkers City Council has held two Town Halls on this topic and has received feedback from roughly 60 residents thus far.
I look forward to working on incorporating some of these recommendations into the proposed plan.
If you are interested in participating in the upcoming Public Hearing, Please join us at Yonkers City Hall on Tuesday, January 31st at 6:30 PM on the 4th Floor."
