FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MAYOR SPANO ANNOUNCES CITY OF YONKERS AWARDED STATE GRANTS FOR DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION PROJECTS.
Grants to Fund Ludlow Station Transportation Enhancements and Phase Four of Saw Mill River Daylighting.
YONKERS, NY – December 15, 2022 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced New York State awarded the City grants for two of the City’s ongoing revitalization projects in southwest Yonkers. Through the annual Consolidated Funding application, Yonkers received over $2 million for the redevelopment of the Ludlow station transportation hub and the next phase of the Saw Mill River Daylighting at Chicken Island. The City of Yonkers received the largest award in the Mid-Hudson Region.
“We have witnessed an amazing renaissance of economic development here in Yonkers. This funding will continue the many ecological, recreational, and community revitalization benefits of the Saw Mill River Daylighting Project,” said Mayor Spano. “Transportation enhancements to the Ludlow Station area will continue to rehabilitate a distressed community and improve the quality of life for our neighbors in Southwest Yonkers. Development in these areas will give residents a renewed sense of pride in their City and attract more visitors to come and explore all that Yonkers has to offer.”
As part of the Empire State Development Grant, the City of Yonkers received $1.2 million to enhance the road network and public spaces near the Ludlow Station. This project will be done in collaboration with private partner, Ginsburg Development Companies, who plans to build two residential developments in the Ludlow area. Improvements will help retain and create jobs along with mitigating traffic.
Phase Four of Saw Mill River Daylighting will receive $1 million from the Environmental Facilities Corporation. It will be used toward the fourth and final phase of the creation of a riverwalk through the Chicken Island parking lot and adjacent to Daylighting phase three.
