Gov. Hochul Announcement on Implementation of Utility Thermal Energy Network and Jobs Act
This week Governor Hochul announced that the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) started their implementation of the Utility Thermal Energy Network and Jobs Act, a priority bill for NYLCV which will aid the effort to decarbonize our buildings.
The transportation sector is responsible for the majority of greenhouse gas emissions in New York State. It is crucial that we start to take alternative modes of transportation to reduce the impact of the transportation sector including electric vehicles, public transportation, and more micro mobility measures like bikes, scooters, walking, etc.
New York’s $4.2B environmental bond act getting big boost from advocates
Advocates are spending big to back a state plan to borrow $4.2 billion to help brace New York’s aging infrastructure against the effects of climate change.
The Vote Yes for Clean Water & Jobs Coalition is launching a seven-figure ad campaign encouraging New Yorkers to approve the green-minded bond act that will appear on ballots this November.
“New York stands on the brink of a opportunity to protect our water and air, shore up our water infrastructure, and improve the quality of life in every part of the state” said NYLCV President Julie Tighe
President Biden Speaks on the Passing of the Inflation Reduction Act (Video)
In a celebration in Washington D.C. attended by NYLCV President Julie Tighe, President Biden expressed his excitement at the passing of the Inflation Reduction Act.
“With this law, the American people won, and special interest lost,” said President Biden of the Inflation Reduction Act, which he called “the single most important legislation passed in the Congress to combat inflation.”
Several motorists told THE CITY that congestion pricing could drive them onto mass transit
“I think what I will do is take public transportation,” said Wilson Peguero, 42, of Bushwick, who pays $50 three times a week to park his Nissan Maxima at a West 58th Street garage while he attends John Jay College of Criminal Justice. “Either I take mass transit or I transfer out of this school.”
“The reality is going to be fewer cars,” he said. “We can’t miss the opportunity to update the layout of our streets, prioritize public transit and overhaul our car-centric infrastructure.”
