House passes massive climate, tax and health bill, sending Biden a core piece of his agenda to sign
The House passed a sweeping tax, health and climate bill on Friday, delivering a major win for Democrats and President Joe Biden less than three months before the pivotal midterm elections. The chamber approved the more than $430 billion package by a 220-207 margin, as all Democrats backed it and all Republicans opposed it. The measure, which caps a more than yearlong slog by Democrats to pass a core piece of their agenda, will head to Biden’s desk for his signature.
Stay tuned for a post from us with everything you need to know about the bill.
MTA gets $116 million for new electric buses in NYC
The MTA will replace more than 200 of its gas-guzzling buses thanks to a $116 million federal clean energy grant that will also fund a workplace training and development program. The money will get 230 of the pollution-spewing buses off the road and replace them with electric vehicles that run off batteries. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who secured the funding as part of negotiations on President Biden’s infrastructure bill, said the ultimate plan is to convert the MTA;s entire fleet of 5,800 buses to electric by 2040.
