It is extremely troubling that Japan's former Prime Minister, out in public campaigning, has been assassinated. Campaigning and voting are the cornerstone of all democratic nations and violent attacks on those engaged in these important activities must not be tolerated. We well know how gun violence leaves a deep scar on the communities that are affected by it and the people of Japan and freedom loving people everywhere today are mourning Shinzo Abe's death.
