With banks of computer servers, the facilities use extreme amounts of energy so companies have been buying and reactivating outdated fossil-fuel fired power plants, and locating their server farms next door.
The pause in any new cryptocurrency mining operations will give our environmental experts time to collect critical environmental data to evaluate the crypto mining industry's impact on our ability to meet our state environmental goals consistent with the need to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions.
