YONKERS MAN ARRAIGNED ON MURDER CHARGES AFTER BEING APPREHENDED IN NORTH CAROLINA.
White Plains, NY -- Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced that Yonkers resident Jerome Wilson was indicted for the 2020 shooting death of Chazz Mitchell.
Wilson, 28, was indicted by a Westchester County Grand Jury for Murder in the Second Degree, Manslaughter in the First Degree, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, all felonies. The defendant was arraigned on April 7, 2022, and is being held without bail.
The indictment charges Wilson with fatally shooting Mitchell, a 25-year-old Yonkers resident, on Oak Street in Yonkers on August 25, 2020, at approximately 3:57 p.m.
Wilson was arrested on April 4, 2022, in Charlotte, North Carolina, following a collaborative law enforcement operation involving the Yonkers Police Department, the FBI’s Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.
The case was arraigned before Judge Susan Cacace in Westchester County Court, and is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Shumejda.
The charges against the defendant are merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
