I attended the Yonkers Police Department’s 1st Precinct Community Council Meeting to provide a public safety update, along with YPD Captain Cariello and other elected officials. There has been a major increase in the following crime categories:
- The theft of Car Catalytic Converters. These devices are scrapped and sold for their valuable metals.
- Car break-ins in the middle of the night. Please be vigilant and make sure to lock your car doors.
- The use of paper License Plates to evade law enforcement, traffic cameras, and tolls.
- Shoplifting at retail stores, which appears to be well organized and has increased due to Albany’s bail reform laws.
