Yonkers Insider: Statement from Yonkers City Councilwoman Corazon Pineda Issac 2nd District.

 

Unfortunately our city experienced gun violence last weekend when shots were fired at Duo Tapas Bar and Lounge, located at 748 Yonkers Avenue, hitting two employees, one fatally. My sincere condolences go out to the victim's friends and family. He was only 22 years old. I want to publicly thank the Yonkers Police Department for a job well done. In less than 72 hours, the alleged perpetrator was arrested and charged with murder. Yonkers, as a whole, has been doing better with crime statistics when compared to other big cities, but I know that when it comes close to home, it feels like it happens way too often. Rest assured, the Yonkers Police Department is working to combat gun violence in our communities. It's a team effort that requires parental and community involvement, after-school services to keep our youth engaged, employment opportunities for our young adults, and resources for additional help.
