Westchester Insider: Choice Matters: The Supreme Court's Warning for New York.

 

On Wednesday, 6 Supreme Court justices made former presidents H. Bush, W. Bush and Trump proud when the Court heard arguments in a case that could end our constitutional right to abortion as we know it: Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. Those 6 Supreme Court justices sounded almost giddy at the thought of gutting Roe v. Wade and thereby restricting—or even eliminating—abortion across the country. That is what Mississippi has asked for and that is very possibly what will happen—the end to any constitutional right to abortion, and with it the end to women’s autonomy. More than half of all states across the country are poised to totally ban abortion if the Court overturns Roe. Texas' extreme six-week ban is a real-life preview of the future for more than 50% of women in the United States. Bans don't end abortion. They simply make it illegal. Women will die, and others will be maimed.  Here in Westchester, in response to the Supreme Court hearing, Gerald Yeung of 40 Days of Life, White Plains Chapter, has a warning for New Yorkers and states across the country. Anti-choice extremists are on the march. He shared their frightening strategy.

Gerald Yeung's warning, When Roe is overturned and abortion becomes a states’ issue,“The pro-life [sic] movement’s perspective will then go to the individual state houses and court houses. We’re gearing up for that.” He is promising an all-out war, state-by-state, city-by-city, courthouse-by-courthouse. The terrorist attack waged by Red Rose Rescue on the clinic in White Plains last Saturday will be just the beginning.  BUT you can rest assured Choice Matters is not backing down from the fight to protect everything we’ve fought for. In fact, we are rising up. We are pushing back locally, statewide and nationally against this massive assault and we are asking you to join us.  We are using our on-the-ground strength and 49 years of experience to defend our reproductive freedom.
