FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: YONKERS MAYOR SPANO WAIVES CONSTRUCTION PERMIT FEES FOR DAMAGE ASSOCIATED WITH HURRICANE IDA.

 

Yonkers, NY – September 16, 2021 – In addition to waiving electrical permit fees, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced the City’s Department of Engineering and the Department of Housing & Buildings is also waiving any construction permit fees for damage associated with Hurricane Ida.

“As we know, many Yonkers homes were hit particularly hard by the flash flooding caused by Hurricane Ida,” said Mayor Spano. “We want to continue to help our property owners by relieving them of any additional burden and costs as they continue to recover from this devastating storm. ”

Permits still must be submitted and approved before any construction project can begin, and all work done must comply with current construction, safety, and zoning codes. Fee waivers will be in effect until December 31, 2021 (or until rescinded by the Office of the Mayor).

According to the State of Emergency Declaration issued by the Mayor on September 1, 2021, it directed the Department of Engineering and the Department of Housing & Buildings to waive all fees related to permits, applications, etc. for work to be performed to repair damages related to/caused by Hurricane Ida. This directive shall be deemed to renew every 5 days until December 31, 2021 (or until rescinded by the Office of the Mayor).
