Fighting Climate Change
Some good news: I am leading the way as New York now embarks on a zero-emissions future on its roadways.
Last week, Governor Kathy Hochul signed into law my legislation (S.2758) requiring all in-state sales of new passenger cars and trucks be zero emission by 2035.
Undeniably, the best way to ramp up our fight against the climate crisis is to transition to new vehicles that are entirely free of carbon and other toxic emissions.
The devastation from Tropical Storm Ida proves, once again, that half-measures in dealing with climate change are of little benefit to us. We need to continue building on the landmark New York Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) passed in 2019, reduce our carbon footprint and ultimately save our planet.
I am committed to making sure New York meets its climate change goals, and the new zero emissions law is a big step.
Sincerely,
Pete Harckham
