It was a privilege to participate in Mount Pleasant’s Purple Heart Day ceremony. The Purple Heart medal honors service members who were wounded or killed in action while serving in the U.S. military. We are eternally grateful for their valor and sacrifice. The ceremony was organized by the Hawthorne American Legion Post 112, the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce and the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 21. I am photographed with Army National Guard General Isabel Smith and Robert O’Malley, the first Marine to receive the Medal of Honor in Vietnam and the recipient of three Purple Hearts.
