FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – July 12, 2021

TWO BRONX MEN ARRESTED AND CHARGED AFTER VIOLENT HOME INVASION AND SHOOTING IN MOUNT VERNON.

White Plains, NY -- Two Bronx men have been arrested and charged after a Mount Vernon Police Department investigation into a violent home invasion and subsequent shooting, Westchester District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced on July 12, 2021.

In the early morning hours of July 7th, members of the MVPD responded to a home invasion at 201 South 6th Avenue in Mount Vernon. During the investigation of that home invasion, and while MVPD was still on scene investigating, shots were fired at the home by an individual who fled the scene in a vehicle.

MVPD located and arrested Yorddy Nunez, 18, who was involved in the home invasion and was apprehended after a pursuit. Police recovered a loaded .45 caliber firearm from the vehicle.

Working together with the MVPD, the FBI’s Westchester Safe Streets Task Force arrested a second suspect, Fabian Johnson, 23, who previously lived at the residence where these events took place, and who was evicted last month. A second firearm and property stolen during the home invasion were recovered during his arrest.

“The violent actions of these two men who attacked this residence not once, but twice, and while law enforcement was on the scene, is outrageous,” DA Rocah said. “This collaborative effort from our partners in law enforcement including MVPD, the FBI, Westchester County Police and the DA’s Office, resulted in getting these brazen individuals off of the streets.”

Nunez has been charged with Burglary in the First Degree, Robbery in the First Degree, Attempted Assault in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.

Johnson has been charged with Burglary in the First Degree, Robbery in the First Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Nicholas DiCostanzo.

The charges against Nunez and Johnson are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
