NYC Budget Recap
Approved on June 30, 2021, the Recovery Budget represents the city’s largest spreadsheet ever, including $14 billion in federal aid and a $10.5 billion increase from the economic challenges of FY21. As we carefully exit the COVID-19 pandemic, reaffirming our climate commitment through the FY22 budget is essential.
According to the NYC Comptroller, thousands of water fountains, faucets, and water bottle refilling stations in New York City schools sat out of commission for months while they awaited additional safety testing or repairs to remove lead. “This audit should be a teachable moment for the city Department of Education to speed up its processes for fixing its fixtures before the next round of testing,” NYLCV Senior Vice President Josh Klainberg.(Gothamist)
Climate Power and the League of Conservation Voters announced the launch of new digital ads in New York to encourage Rep. Delgado (NY-19) to continue to fight for clean energy and climate investments necessary to meet the moment. These ads are part of an additional $10 million paid media boost across 16 States and 23 Congressional Districts for their nationwide Great American Build campaign. (Press Release)
Coastal communities are at the forefront of the climate crisis, subject to increasingly severe extreme weather events, sea level rise, and degradation of marine ecosystems. States like New York are ready to build back better with “shovel ready” projects that will create jobs and revitalize communities. NYLCV and its allies support the bipartisan coalition of House members that are advocating for the investment of at least $10 billion in coastal and ocean restoration. (Public News Service)
