YONKERS MAYOR SPANO ANNOUNCES PLANS TO JOIN SUSTAINABLE WESTCHESTER’S COMMUNITY ENERGY PROGRAM.
Yonkers to Become Largest Participant in Westchester Power, a Community Choice Aggregation Program for Better Clean Energy Utility Rates and a Greener City.
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano will join Sustainable Westchester representatives Wednesday, February 10 at 11:30AM at Yonkers City Hall (Unity Fountain) to announce the City’s plans to join Sustainable Westchester’s Community Choice Aggregation program, known as Westchester Power. The fixed-rate, 100% emission-free energy program allows municipalities like Yonkers to negotiate better utility supply rates and “green” the electricity grid on behalf of its residents.
Westchester Power currently serves 115,000 residents in 28 Westchester municipalities who have come together to address climate change through their electricity choice. Yonkers is set to become the largest participant in the program that selects from qualified Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) for a renewable energy supply.
Sustainable Westchester is a nonprofit, consortium of Westchester County local governments that facilitates effective collaboration on sustainability initiatives.
