News from 16th County Legislative District:
1. A New COVID Vaccination Center at the Armory.
2. Glenwood Power Plant: Big Conversation going on in terms of this project. They have a project committed to Green Energy and Net zero as well. The only question that needs to be answered is where will the Parking go? It is hoped that a resolution to the Project could happen by Summer? Stay Tuned.
3. Homeless Shelter: Since the Homeless Shelter next to St. John's Church got closed down. 68 Palisade Avenue has been a Temporary Homeless Shelter. There is a hope that after March Zoning Board Meeting that the Location at St. Casimir's Place could then become the Permanent Homeless Shelter for Yonkers, if the Location gets the Approval of the Yonkers Zoning Board.
Westchester County Government:
1. COVID: Westchester County trying to continue to make sure that COVID numbers continue to fall in our County of Westchester.
2. Child Care is an important issue to Majority Whip Christopher Johnson.
3. Another Priority is the Report coming from the Police Reform Task Force of Westchester County, Report has been submitted by the Westchester County Executive to the Westchester County Board of Legislators to go over that important document - 51 Items - County Exec, Westchester County Board of Legislators and New York State has a role to play in how the final document will look like. We will keep our readers posted on this most important document.
Westchester County Board of Legislators:
1. Looking at our Bee Line Buses are always one of the County's Top Concerns. The Finances of Westchester County seem to be holding their own in this tough Fiscal times, due to the COVID Pandemic according to Majority Whip Johnson.
2. Also Non Profits get better funding to better help Non Profits: Non Profits like Power Lab, Yonkers Arts and other Non Profits, which are the heart and soul of our County.
3. Look at a Bill sponsored by Majority Whip Johnson called Parental Leave Legislation.
4. Also continuing to look at Majority Whip Johnson County Bill called Co-op Transparency Disclosure Reform.
5. Currently coming before the Board will be a Settlement that the County Exec recently made with Standard Amusements from the previous agreement. County Board will go over and agreement and vote on to approve the settlement or not.
Majority Whip Chris Johnson is running for reelection on the Westchester County Board of Legislators in the 16th District in this year's 2021 Election Cycle. He faces competition in A Democratic Party Primary with Yonkers Community Leader Dwanita Crosby. Petitioning to get on Ballot, begins on March 2nd and runs till March 22 to March 25th, where Petitions have to be filed at Westchester County Board of Elections.
