TARRYTOWN MAN CHARGED WITH SELLING COUNTERFEIT INSPECTION STICKERS.
Arrested after making sale to undercover County Police detective.
(Hawthorne, NY) – Westchester County Police arrested a Tarrytown man on Wednesday after he sold counterfeit motor vehicle inspection stickers to an undercover officer.
Detectives opened an investigation after County Police received a confidential tip that a man was using Facebook Marketplace to sell fraudulent DMV inspection stickers in Westchester. A detective from the General Investigations Unit contacted the seller and they agreed to meet on Wildey Street in Tarrytown.
The undercover detective agreed to pay $240 for two inspection stickers. After an agreement was reached, the suspect was taken into custody by Detectives Brandon Amlung and Kevin McGovern.
Luis Pina-Perez, 36, of Riverview Avenue was charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree, a felony, and Making a False Inspection Certificate, a misdemeanor.
His arraignment on Wednesday night was handled by the Hastings-on-Hudson Village Court. Pina-Perez was released on his own recognizance and is due to appear in Tarrytown Village Court on Sept. 16.
“We received a confidential tip about this matter on our telephone tip line as well as via a confidential message to our social media,” Commissioner Thomas A. Gleason said. “We encourage anyone with information about criminal activity to utilize these means to share information with us privately and confidentially.”

These channels are not monitored around-the-clock. The public is reminded to call 911 to report an emergency or criminal activity that requires an immediate police response.
