FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: AFTERMATH OF TROPICAL STORM ISAIASYONKERS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS CONTINUES TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE TO RESIDENTS.

YONKERS, NY – August 5, 2020 – Due to the aftermath of Tropical Storm Isaias, Mayor Mike Spano today announced that the City’s Department of Public Works (DPW) will continue to provide additional assistance to residents. Due to the dangerous winds, there was a widespread of fallen trees and power outages throughout the City of Yonkers. As a result, over 10,000 Yonkers residents were affected and the city received over 2,000 service calls.

“Once Tropical Storm Isaias hit Yonkers, it was evident that I had to ensure our Department of Public Works increased its services and continued to make sand and sand bags available to residents,” said Mayor Spano. “I thank our residents for their patience as our DPW crews continue to work around the clock to clean up debris and fallen trees in the City of Yonkers. As always, our goal is to ensure our residents’ needs are continuously met in emergency situations.”

The following additional services include:

Ø Yonkers Organic Waste Yard (located at 610 Nepperhan Avenue) remain open daily from 7:00 AM-8:00 PM until Friday, August 7th

Ø Sand and sandbags for residents who live in low lying areas

Residents can pick up sand and sand bags starting this evening until 8:00PM and daily from 7:00 AM-8:00 PM until Friday, August 7th at the Yonkers Organic Waste Yard

Ø Curbside Collection (Thursday, August 6th and Friday, August 7th )

Storm-related items such as yard organics, twigs, branches and raked debris (preferably tied)

Ø Weighing Scale available to EVERYONE

Before entering the Organic Yard or dropping off the disposal, weights must be recorded
