Yonkers Insider: Statement from Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano.

Dear Friend, It is known all too well that the freedoms we enjoy today are because of those in uniform and their families who have made the ultimate commitment to this country, to our civil liberties, and to you.   It is no secret on the Fourth of July -- we indulge in some of the joys synonymous with American pleasures: hotdogs, burgers, barbecue, the day off for a lot of us, and fireworks. But it's just as important if not more so, that we remember how incredibly lucky we are that people, generations ago, and now are willing to take up arms and fight for our freedom.  So like many other occasions this year, we will have to celebrate today a bit differently since there will be no fireworks by the city's waterfront.  Instead, like everything else in life, there is always a silver lining. We can use this time with loved ones to recommit ourselves to one another and ensure we stand by the principles and values of what makes these United States of America, the greatest country in the world.   Let's use this day to remember the freedoms we enjoy, the opportunities afforded to us, and the premise that we all can chase our dreams and reach for the stars.  I hope you enjoy the day, be well, and stay safe.
