*** PRESS RELEASE *** Yonkers Police arrest, charge suspect in fatal domestic shooting incident.
Yonkers, NY – On Friday, July 3rd, 2020, at approximately 6:19 PM, members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to a single-family residence at 31 Oakland Avenue on a report of shots fired with a victim down. Upon arrival Patrol and Emergency Service Unit officers located an unresponsive female down on the ground on the front lawn of the home; at the same time a male suspect present at scene was taken into custody without incident. The female victim was subsequently pronounced deceased at scene. Police cordoned off the area and initiated a criminal investigation.
Detectives from the Major Case Squad and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene and interviewed subjects and witnesses, canvassed for surveillance video, and processed forensic and ballistic evidence. Investigation has yielded that the suspect and victim were siblings and lived together with their elderly mother at location; they were apparently engaged in a dispute over property inside the home and then on the front lawn. The suspect remained at scene and police recovered an illegally possessed .38 caliber revolver. Several witnesses to the event were interviewed, and the suspect did provide a statement to investigators. The elderly mother was taken to a local area hospital for evaluation. The investigation remains open and on-going.
