(White Plains, NY) – Wedding bells were supposed to ring for hundreds of Westchester County couples during what would have been 2020’s wedding season, but then came the COVID-19 pandemic and hopes were dashed for those who dreamed of the day they’d say ‘I do.’ PIX 11 News Reporter and Westchester County resident Rebecca Soloman had planned a wedding reception for this year, but made the difficult decision to postpone her big day until 2021 for the health and safety of her guests. On Friday, July 24, standing on the front steps of the Michaelian Office Building, Westchester County Executive George Latimer stepped in to officiate the wedding of Soloman to her husband-to-be Eitan Ahimor.
Latimer said: “Getting married is a rite of passage for so many young couples, a special day filled with love and laughter that you remember fondly for the rest of your life. I feel badly for so many Westchester County couples who were forced to put their weddings on hold as we all struggle through the aftermath of COVID-19. And, while it may not be the grand ceremony she had envisioned, I am honored to play a small part in Rebecca’s vows to her husband Eitan. I wish them many more long years of happiness together, and a fantastic celebration in 2021.”
While they officially tied the knot in White Plains with Latimer on July 24, Rebecca Soloman and Eitan Ahimor plan to have a larger celebration surrounded by family and friends one year later on July 24, 2021.
Soloman said: “The week our formal wedding invitations went out was around the same time we made the difficult, yet safe, decision to postpone our highly anticipated wedding with 250+ guests. Like so many 2020 brides and grooms to-be, we weren’t going to let COVID-19 stand in the way of our love story. Instead, we’d officially tie the knot where our relationship flourished, in our beloved Westchester County. As proud residents who hope to continue to live and raise a family here, we’re honored the leader of the County, County Executive George Latimer, said ‘yes’ to making our marriage official.”
