CHAIRMAN BEN BOYKIN ELECTED TO UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA’S GENERAL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION BOARD.

White Plains, NY — The Chairman of the Westchester County Board of Legislators, Ben Boykin, has been elected to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) General Alumni Association (GAA) Board of Directors. His term runs through May 2023. He is one of 24 directors and one of the nine directors to represent out-of-state alumni. He will serve on the Budget, Finance & Audit and the Athletic Advisory Committees.

UNC, the nation’s first state university, is a global higher education leader. The Chapel Hill, NC campus has a total enrollment of 30,011, composed of 19,117 undergraduates and 10,894 graduate students. The enrollment is 59% female and 41% male. There are 336,000 alumni in all 50 states and in 149 counties.

Chairman Boykin has been a tireless advocate for increased minority recruitment and retention of students as well as the fair and equitable treatment of workers at UNC. He participated in the historic Lenoir Dining Hall shutdown at UNC in 1969 which lead to increased wages and better working conditions for minority women.

His career includes being a business executive, education leader and governmental leader. His commitment to education includes serving seven years as a member of the White Plains School Board, 18 years as a Bennett College trustee, and 10 years as a lecturer in accounting at NC A&T State University.

On the GAA Board, he plans to focus on minority recruitment and retention, elimination of SAT and other “admission” tests, and continued diversification of the administration, faculty and staff at UNC.

Chairman Boykin is a 1972 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UNC with a BS degree in business administration with an accounting concentration. He graduated number one in the accounting department and number two in the business school. He holds an MBA, with honors, from the Kellogg Business School, Northwestern University. He is a CPA.
