Yonkers Insider: New York League of Conservation Voters.

We hope you are doing well during these difficult times.

Here's what we're reading this week:

Green Gardening Tips: Managing your Garden: Setting up a garden can be hard work. Don’t let your effort go to waste by not properly maintaining what you’ve created! This week’s Green Gardening Tips will help you manage your garden throughout the spring and summer months.

Bronx Congressional Candidate Forum on Sustainability: We recently held a candidate forum for Congressional District 15’s primary election, which will take place on June 23rd to replace longtime environmental champion Rep. Serrano. Voters heard directly from seven of the candidates about where they stand on sustainability issues. You can watch the forum video and read the recap.

Pushing NYC to Fight Lead Exposure During COVID-19: With children spending more time indoors in unsafe housing and with well visits to doctors on the decline, the risk of exposure to lead may be rising. NYLCV and its allies recently sent a letter to NYC leaders urging them to remain vigilant and to consider not cutting this public health program.

News Roundup:

A report by a group of parks conservancies expressed concern that the proposed cuts to the NYC Parks Department budget may result in green spaces falling into disrepair due to lack of maintenance, which would undermine the progress made in 2019 under the historic Play Fair for Parks investments. (New York Daily News) Let your Council Member know you support funding for parks by signing the Play Fair for Parks petition

The Brooklyn Star featured coverage of our NYC Climate Tracker, which monitors the City’s progress on meeting its climate goals. (Brooklyn Star)

Hundreds of groups representing state and regional tourism, local businesses, veterans groups, engineering and planning firms, conservation organizations, and the outdoor recreation industry are calling for Congress to pass the Great American Outdoors Act (S. 3422). The bill would fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and invest in critical repair needs in national parks and on other public lands. (LWCF Coalition) Thank you to all the members of the NY Congressional Delegation who are championing this effort!

The NYS Public Service Commission approved an extension of NY-Sun, the State’s distributed solar incentive program, through 2025. The program includes $573 million of incentives for solar power. (Hodgson Russ)

Twenty-one new miles of streets will be open for walking and biking while properly social distancing. As the weather gets warmer, New Yorkers need these areas to enjoy the outdoors while staying safe. (Gothamist
