Michael Sabatino was born and raised in the Bronx and has been a resident of Yonkers for the last thirty-some years

He was famously involved in a gay marriage equality lawsuit that went all the way to the #NewYork State Court of Appeals.

Michael Sabatino married his husband #RobertVoorheis in 2003 in Canada.
The two joined Marriage Equality New York in 1999, with Robert Voorheis becoming co-executive director.
In 2006, Michael Sabatino became a member of then-County Executive Andy Spano’s #LGBT Advisory Board.
Marriage equality by legislation came about in 2011, in New York.

Michael Sabatino was elected to the City Council in November 2011.

In 2013, he was elected to the position of Minority Leader by the #Yonkers City Council.
Michael Sabatino has served on the Yonkers City Council for eight years and often seen at Mayor Mike Spano’s side.
The 3rd Council District, which runs from Northwest to Southwest Yonkers and up into #ParkHill, will be now be represented by Tasha Diaz, since Michael Sabatino did not seek re-election.
Term limits have been in place in Yonkers for more than 25 years, and had restricted the number of terms that council members and the mayor can serve to two four-year terms, but in 2019 Michael Sabatino introduced legislation to extend the term limits to 12 years.
He was also one of the proponents of the Carpet Mill Arts District (Yoho) bordering Nepherhan Avenue.

Michael Sabatino worked with Groundwork Hudson Valley on the South Yonkers Public Greenway project.

He is known for participating neighborhood associations, Rebuild Yonkers Schoolsl and PTA meetings, as well as senior events in his district and throughout the city.
Michael Sabatino has often brought up #LGBTQ issues in Yonkers.
He created the Yonkers Pride festival and was instrumental in setting up the Mayor’s LGBTQ Advisory Board, as well as, passing legislation recognizing Pride History Month in Yonkers.
Michael Sabatino also saw to it that the Pride flag has been recognized by Mayor Mike Spano at Yonkers City Hall, with a flag-raising ceremony.
He has served as only one of two openly gay elected officials in #WestchesterCounty.
Michael Sabatino also serves as vice president of the Hudson Valley Stonewall Democrats, a new organization that endorses candidates running for office.
It is rumored that Michael Sabatino will join his husband Robert Voorheis, as a City of Yonkers employee when his term expires.

He is a graduate of St. Raymond Grammar and High School in the
#Bronx.
Michael Sabatino graduated from St. John's University with a BS in Medical Technology and from Long Island University with a MS in Medical Biology.

His early career was spent working as a hospital laboratory technologist.
Michael Sabatino is now teaching part-time at a professional medical career school, Big Apple Training (White Plains, NY).
